Nao has been living in the UK since he was eighteen years old.

He left his native Japan with the dream of making traditional hand sewn bespoke shoes at Cordwainers, the most formidable footwear school in Britain.

During his time there he realised another talent and passion for jewellery making.

After starting out selling his self-taught silver jewellery at Spitalfields Market, RU.ST Jewellery was born in 2002 as a men's jewellery line of mostly silver jewellery and leather accessories.

His first exhibition in Paris Fashion Week was a huge success.

He then received interest from international shops and department stores such as Liberty, Browns, Harvey Nichols in London, L'eclaireur in Paris, and Barneys in New York.

This enabled him to open his first RU.ST store in Tokyo at the age of twenty-five, this was followed a few years later by a showroom in London.

Since then, RU.ST jewellery has expanded to include women's jewellery, diamond engagement and wedding rings.

Nao is a father of two and his children live on the beautiful Isle of Wight.

He currently divides his time between the Isle of wight enjoying the slower pace of life there with his children and the faster pace of London life.

"My interests don't stop with jewellery"

Over some years, we raised over £35,000 for Japanese earthquake relief directed at helping schools for children with special educational needs.

We've also raised funds for our local primary school on the Isle of Wight, and for Tommy's baby charity.

Nao has recently joined a project in Tanzania with friends,

"the aim is to build a self-sufficient village where people can live a more simple and sustainable rural life without the need for money!"
